Beach volleyball has a massive following around the world attracting multi-million dollar support. It is a huge spectator sport, particularly throughout continental Europe, the USA, South America, South Africa and Australia where it gets significant TV exposure. It also had one of highest rates of ticket sales at Athens.

In the UK, the sport is enjoying a rapid rise in popularity boosted by plans for a beach volleyball court on Horse Guards Parade in London for the 2012 Olympics.
