Olympic hopefuls win again in US

British Olympic hopefuls, Debbie Spokes and Hedda Meijer chalked up another first at the weekend taking on experienced California women's teams.

The Dockweiler 'Vollydolly Open', part of the California Beach Volleyball Association series, was their second win at Dockweiler during their six month training season in the USA.

Said Debbie: "We were drawn in one of the toughest pools winning the first two games and loosing the third. But we finished the morning top in our pool and the only team with a positive points score."

The afternoon saw them in a single elimination knock-out, where they beat three of the day's top scoring teams and went on to win the final, two sets to nil.

Next weekend they face leading Californian players at the Laguna Open. "There is no AVP event next week, so the top level teams are likely to turn up. We expect a tough day, but this is just the experience we need to get a true measure of our game."

This weekend's result has placed the British girls in the top 50 of the California Beach Volleyball Association which includes more than 400 registered female players.
